'Speed Of Light'

On the 21st March I witnessed a stunning piece of public performance art in Salford Quays called 'Speed Of Light'. The piece originated from the 'Edinburgh International Festival' and has traveled around the country using volunteers from the surrounding areas to perform in the spectacle. The performance was brought to Salford Quays by 'Future everything' for the 'Future Everything Summit'.

The show consisted of volunteers dressed in special light suits jogging around MediaCity in certain formations to create an amazing light show for the public. The lights created a beautiful atmosphere in the very cold and very windy Salford Quays bringing hundereds or thousands of people together on an otherwise uninteresting night. It was interesting to see how many people this one event brought to the area and was good research for the current Unit X project.
The full effect of the light show can be seen in the photos I took using a slow shutter speed. The changing colours of the moving lights created beautiful patterns sometimes resembling threads or weaving.
